Biscuit Head Asheville, NC

March 25, 2026

Environment

Biscuit Head is a beloved Asheville staple with several locations scattered around the area, including West Asheville, South Asheville, and even across state lines in South Carolina. No matter which location you visit, you’ll find the same bright, quirky, Southern-inspired atmosphere that keeps both locals and tourists coming back for more. It’s the kind of spot you bring visitors when you want to show off Asheville’s brunch scene.

Each location has a casual, welcoming vibe, and despite the steady crowds, the experience always feels fun and lively. One of Biscuit Head’s most unique features is their famous self-serve jelly bar. They make their own jams, jellies, butters and hot sauces. The jelly cart lets you sample as many as you’d like. It’s an Instagram-worthy setup and one of the reasons people love visiting.

As someone with Celiac, I know self-serve areas can feel risky due to cross-contact concerns. Thankfully, the staff at Biscuit Head handles this well. If you want to try any of their jams or sauces safely, they’re happy to grab fresh containers from the back.

You’ll also find shelves throughout the restaurant and around Asheville stocked with their house-made jams, hot sauces, and biscuit mixes. They make great Asheville souvenirs or gifts for food-loving friends. They even sell a gluten-free biscuit mix, which I’ve tried at home and enjoyed.

Food

Biscuit Head is known for giant, biscuits and creative toppings, but their gluten-free menu options are fairly limited. However, they do offer a gluten-free biscuit, which feels fitting for a placed called Biscuit Head.

Each time I’ve visited, I ordered a simple breakfast plate: eggs, a gluten-free biscuit, and creamy grits. It’s straightforward, filling, and delicious, exactly what you want from a Southern breakfast. The gluten-free biscuit is a bit crumbly, but has good flavor, and it’s a satisfying option. They do offer a gluten-free gravy, but it is also vegan and though I love a biscuits and gravy dish, I’ve always topped my biscuit with a fun, flavorful jam instead.

My meals have always been safely prepared, and I’ve never had any issues with gluten exposure. The staff is knowledgeable about what can be made gluten-free and very willing to answer questions or offer guidance, which makes the whole experience much more comfortable.

Final Thoughts on Biscuit Head

Overall, Biscuit Head is a fun, breakfast and brunch spot, especially if you’re showing friends or family around Asheville. The food is consistently good, the staff is helpful, and the atmosphere feels uniquely local.

For gluten-free diners, there are options, l and I’ve had good experiences each time I’ve visited. However, it’s worth noting that the gluten-free selection is limited. Biscuit Head is almost always busy thanks to its popularity. If you’re planning to visit during peak hours, I recommend arriving early or being prepared for a wait.

Still, if you’re craving a hearty Southern breakfast and want to experience one of Asheville’s most iconic restaurants, Biscuit Head is absolutely worth a stop. And if you fall in love with their jams or GF biscuit mix, you can take a little bit of Asheville home with you.
