Taco Billy Asheville, NC

March 11, 2026

Environment

Taco Billy has two locations in the Asheville area: the original in West Asheville and another in Black Mountain. The West Asheville location has a quirky, laid-back vibe with both indoor and outdoor seating. Decorated with various images of billy goats, it’s a spot that stands out in both aesthetics and atmosphere.

Both locations are open Tuesday through Sunday. Limited on site parking is available.

Food

I’ve only ever tried the breakfast tacos at Taco Billy, but that’s because they’re just that good. Breakfast tacos are a rare find in Asheville. I was introduced to breakfast tacos during my time in Texas, and was thrilled to discover them here. Taco Billy serves breakfast tacos all day, alongside a variety of other taco options, including build your own.

My go-to orders are the Billie Holliday, a classic with sausage, egg, and cheese served with your choice of salsa, and Mama’s Favorite, which features sausage, egg, sweet potato, and creamy goat cheese on a sweet plantain tortilla. The unique sweetness and texture of the plantain tortilla, combined with the creaminess of the goat cheese, create a flavor experience unlike any other.

Taco Billy offers many gluten-free options, with a clearly labeled menu. All tacos can be served on either corn tortillas or the gluten-free plantain tortilla.

One downside for those with Celiac Disease is that their tortilla chips are fried in-house using a shared fryer, making them unsafe due to cross-contact. As much as I love queso, I’ve never tried theirs for this reason.

Taco Billy offers a variety of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. One of my favorites is their house-made agua frescas, which are available in a serve-yourself machine. I always mix half watermelon and half pineapple, a recommendation I received from staff that turned out to be the perfect refreshing combo.

Final Thoughts on Taco Billy

Taco Billy is a must-visit spot in Asheville, especially if you’re on the hunt for delicious, gluten-free tacos. Their unique plantain tortilla, all-day breakfast offerings, and refreshing agua frescas make for a standout dining experience. While those with Celiac Disease should steer clear of the chips due to cross-contact, there are still plenty of safe and flavorful options to enjoy. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or lingering over tacos and drinks, Taco Billy delivers a laid-back, memorable meal that keeps me coming back.
