Gluten Free at Snooze

If you’re looking for a gluten-free breakfast or brunch restaurant, Snooze is a chain worth considering. Originally founded in Denver, Snooze has expanded into multiple states. With this expansion, they’ve built a reputation for creative breakfast dishes, colorful restaurants, and accommodating a variety of dietary needs.

My first visit to Snooze was years ago in Austin, Texas. Since then I have been lucky enough to enjoy a breakfast at several Snooze locations. While menus items may vary between locations, my experiences have been consistently positive as a gluten-free diner with Celiac Disease.

In this review, I’ll share my experiences with the restaurant’s atmosphere, gluten-free menu options, and how comfortable I felt navigating the menu over multiple visits.

Environment

Although my first experiences with Snooze were in Austin, the restaurant has expanded considerably since that first visit. The restaurant chain now has locations across multiple states. While each location may have slight differences, Snooze has maintained a consistent brand identity centered around bright colors, playful décor, and a fun brunch atmosphere.

Most of my Austin visits were spent on the patio, which was dog-friendly and a great option for enjoying Austin’s often pleasant weather. Inside, the restaurants feature vibrant colors, unique seating, and a lively energy that feels welcoming no matter the occasion. Many locations also include bar seating, which can be convenient for solo diners or those hoping to avoid a longer wait for a table.

Throughout my visits, I found the restaurants to be clean and well maintained. The overall atmosphere is casual, upbeat, and approachable. When you arrive, you’ll quickly understand why Snooze has become such a popular brunch destination.

One thing to keep in mind is that Snooze is often busy, especially on weekends. Long wait times are common during peak brunch hours. I’d recommend arriving early or planning ahead to make for a smoother dining experience.

Food

Over the years, Snooze has consistently been one of the better chain restaurants I have visited as a gluten-free diner. While the menu has changed since my first visit, I have continued to find a variety of gluten-free options and staff who are willing to answer questions about ingredients and modifications.

One thing worth noting is that Snooze does not prominently label gluten-free menu items. While some diners may find this frustrating, I have generally found the staff to be knowledgeable and helpful. During my first visit, our server walked me through the menu, explaining which dishes were naturally gluten-free and which could be modified. She also proactively asked whether anyone at the table had allergies or dietary restrictions. Experiences can vary by location, but I have found this level of attentiveness to be fairly consistent across my visits.

During my first meal at Snooze, I ordered the Blueberry Danish Pancakes made with their gluten-free pancake batter. If there is a gluten-free pancake option on a menu, there is a good chance I am ordering it. One thing I appreciated was that Snooze offered multiple pancake varieties that could be prepared with their gluten-free batter rather than limiting diners to a single option. We gluten-free diners deserve the fun pancake options too!

The pancakes were fluffy and had a texture that closely resembled traditional pancakes. The blueberry flavor was excellent, although I found some of the toppings a bit sweeter than expected. Even so, I finished most of the meal and left wanting to return to try other pancake varieties. I paired the pancakes with a side of crispy bacon and a Maine Root soda, both of which were enjoyable additions to the meal.

On a later visit, I decided to branch out and try the breakfast tacos. Living in Austin at the time, breakfast tacos were everywhere, so it takes something special to stand out. The version I ordered included eggs, bacon, potatoes, avocado, and salsa on corn tortillas. The tacos were generously filled and packed with flavor. They felt more substantial and creative than the typical bacon-and-egg breakfast tacos I could easily make at home.

I also ordered an iced chai tea latte during that visit. While the food continued to impress me, the chai latte was underwhelming. It lacked both the sweetness and spice that I typically look for in a good chai. To date, it remains the only menu item I have ordered at Snooze that did not meet my expectations.

Overall, my experiences across multiple Snooze locations have been positive. Whether ordering gluten-free pancakes, breakfast tacos, or other brunch favorites, I have found the food to be flavorful, satisfying, and thoughtfully prepared. In my experience, Snooze has consistently provided one of the more accommodating gluten-free breakfast experiences I have encountered. (And one that includes more than just scrambled eggs.)

Final Thoughts on Gluten-Free at Snooze

Based on multiple visits over the years, Snooze A.M. Eatery remains one of my favorite chain breakfast restaurants for gluten-free dining. While it is not a dedicated gluten-free establishment and cross-contact is always something individuals with Celiac Disease should discuss with staff, I have consistently found the employees knowledgeable and willing to answer questions about menu modifications.

The menu offers a variety of naturally gluten-free items as well as dishes that can be adapted to fit a gluten-free diet. The gluten-free pancakes remain a standout, and I appreciate that there are enough options to keep repeat visits interesting.

The biggest drawback for me is the price. Snooze is not an inexpensive breakfast spot, but the pricing is generally comparable to other popular brunch restaurants. For those looking for gluten-free breakfast or brunch options, in cities where Snooze operates, I think it is a restaurant worth considering.

As always, restaurant procedures can change over time, so I recommend confirming current gluten-free practices with staff during your visit. My experiences across multiple locations have been positive, and I would happily eat at Snooze again.
